Urgent Need to Breathe

2018

#dance&technology #interactivity #immersivity #aerialdance #freediving

‘The immers(iv)e space and the collective exercise let us enter the(ir) fluid world, even though we had the freedom of breathing. The interdisciplinary use of light, sound and stage design evoked a liquid medium, in which the observation was horizontal/vertical and separated/simultaneous. Furthermore, these actions could be seen as one, or as one moment, in which they describe the state of body and mind in the same time.’ /review by Kristóf Farkas/

Urgent Need to Breathe was inspired by freediving. In the performance we breathe together and simultaneously take deep breaths to gain awareness of our body and mind. We dive together to experience the immersive space.

Your sensorial experience is supported by interactive technology as we use LED lights reacting on light sensors, wearable electronics and interactive sound and light design. However you can see the dancers moving from different perspectives, it is not only a dance piece to watch, but also a diving experience with its different states of flow, weightlessness, adrenalin, narcosis, dependence and even the urgent need to breathe.

In the creation of this seemingly fluid, sensitive world the international team puts special emphasis on the relationship of dance to digital arts, which research has started by the choreographer, Flóra Eszter Sarlós during her Master of International Art Creation at University Paris 8 and is carried out in the frame of our company’s project STELLA.
