UNPLUGGED

- A SPACE-SPECIFIC PIECE COMBINING CONTEMPORARY DANCE AND SPORTS CLIMBING

2021

Unplugged is a site-specific piece designed for the Goat rock of Buda, sort of a choreographic poem on a rock using contemporary dance and sport climbing. The piece is inspired by a personal trip made in Patagonia and mysterious tales of uncontacted tribes that are already extinct or endangered on our Planet, their unique connection to nature, community cohesion, sustainable, but in our perception extreme living conditions. Our performers moving through ropes between the Ground and the Sky incorporate an imaginary tribe trying to preserve a fragment of space still unplugged. Their dreamy universe reminds us of all we have lost connection to, questioning our notion of knowledge, freedom and spirit.

Unplugged is a trans-sectoral project made with professional dancers and climbers. Dancers of the project have practised indoor sport climbing through 6 months to create the 45 minutes piece, AWE premiered in Spider climbing gym in Budapest in September 2020. AWE is considered as a pre-study of the current production. In March-April 2021 performers of Unplugged have taken a rock climbing course with the mentoring of András Tiboldi, climber and climbing coach. Then during a one week long, intense research residency in the Zemplén the team has started to dig deeper into the connection of dance and climbing. The research-creation period is currently continued on the Goat rock itself in Budapest. The piece is premiered on the 2nd of July 2021 in the frame of PLACCC Dance Festival and Staféta Program.
